You probably know how important it is to show up on the first page of Google for your keywords. It means you get more clicks, more traffic, and ideally more customers.
But competition is tough and most small business owners don't feel like they have the expertise to dig into the world of SEO. Now while that might be true, there are still a few things you can do to every blog post to ensure you are getting the biggest bang for your buck on everything you write.
In this post, I want to share with you three things you can do starting today to help improve the search rankings of your content.
Step 1 - Install an SEO Plugin
Technology has made our lives easier when it comes to on-page SEO. Now there are a number of WordPress plugins you can use that will make getting your posts and pages SEO ready so much easier.
There are a bunch of plugins out there but I've worked with two personally that I'd recommend: Yoast and All-In-One-SEO. Both of these are simple plugins but they analyze each post and page you write letting you know where your SEO can improve and give you simple scores.
Step 2 - Know Your a Keyword
Seems simple, but most people don't even have a keyword they are trying to target in their content. Here's where you can really set yourself apart, especially if you are trying to target local customers.
Since you already have installed your WordPress SEO plugin (you have, right) this makes like a lot easier. Ideally, you want to have your keyword in the title, in the first 100 or so words, and in a subheading. If you hit all those three you are on the right track.
Step 3 - Don't Forget About the Meta
Here's a final tip that a lot of business owners ignore. You want to always have meta content for each page or post on your website. Meta content is the sentence underneath the link that's displayed on search engine results.
Use your metaspace to not only highlight your keyword but provide a nice little sales pitch for why someone should click on the above link. Tell people what your content is about and why they'd like don't leave them guessing. Doing this will result in far more clicks.
Easy Adjustments Make the Difference
These are three steps to help you move forward with SEO. If you haven't already, take some time to go back and apply these three tweaks to all of your pages and posts.
If you don't have time to do it all, you can either set aside 5 minutes a day or take your 10 most popular pieces of content and give it a shot.
