14 Tricks To Make Your Tablets Run Faster

When in search of speed, as are all today, there are simple and free tricks that can be applied to android tablets to make them run faster. It’s not about size: not about 7 inch tablets, 9 inch tablets, or 10 inch tablets, and certainly not about power, but rather about smarts and resourcefulness.

1. Updates

Speed is all about keeping up with the newbies, i.e. the latest software. Always conduct updates to alleviate bugs and take advantage of general improvements to your device; updating your apps can do the same.

software update

Go to Settings > About device > Software updates. Check for updates.

2. Network Settings

Frustration is building as your Internet speed slows down?

Go to Settings > Mobile Network Settings > activate best broadband technology. If 4G is an option, turn it on. If the option is 3G, activate something other than GSM or CDMA, for example: WCDMA.

3. Home Screen Spring Cleaning

home screen clean up

Love your 10 inch tablet with its incredible resolutions? Love the wallpaper’s active gimmicks? You’ll have to turn off your live wallpaper for a livelier tablet. Now, clean the home screen from unnecessary and unused icons and widgets, as well. Remember better performance comes with less clutter.

4. Animations

A live wallpaper is not the only animated thing reducing your favourite 7 inch tablet’s speed. Turn off animations for a faster tablet.

Go to Settings > System > find a Build number > tap it seven times. Go back to the previous menu > Developer option > Window animation scale > Off.

Do the same for Transition animation scale and Animator duration scale.

5. Cache Data

More cleaning for a faster tablet continues with the apps cache data. Improve your 7 inch tablet’s overall system performance by clearing your app cache data.

cache data

Go to Settings > Device Storage > scroll to Cache Data.

6. Cache Partition

The cache partition is not the same as the cache data. Cache partition stores temporary files. To clean the partition on the way to a faster tablet, boot the tablet into a recovery mode.

Depending on your device, the method varies. Conduct a simple Google search based on your device for instructions.

7. Uninstalling Apps

We install apps and then forget about them. Don’t let useless apps be the reason for your slow 10 inch tablet. Here’s how you can uninstall, disable & delete apps

uninstalling apps

Go to Settings > Apps > All tab. Identify which apps you’d like to remove, swipe, tap and be free of junk!

8. Running Apps

Disable apps that may be running, but yet are not frequently used.

disable running apps

Go to Settings > Apps > Running tab.

9. Auto-sync

Auto-sync places a huge weight on your 9 inch tablet’s performance.

Go to Settings > Accounts > Auto-sync. Turn it off.

10. Restarts

It is recommended to restart your tablet every few days, to refresh and rid of excess app junk.

11. Bloatware

There is nothing worse than pre-installed apps on your tablet.

Go to Settings > Apps > Select the app you want to disable > Disable.

12. ROM

Installing a faster custom ROM is only for the tech-savvy and the adrenaline junkies out there.

Root your device and install a custom ROM. Risks include void of warranty and irreversible damage, thus this step is not recommended for everyone.

13. Factory Reset

Another dramatic step - yet not as dramatic as rooting your device - entails a factory reset. First, back up all that is important, as your tablet will be reset back to its original state, meaning that everything will be wiped clean.

Go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset.

14. SD Card

Last but not least, if you are using an SD card, makes sure its of class 10 or greater. Beware of viruses and corrupt cards. Now, you have done all you can for a faster tablet.

For Mac OS devices I also want to recommend to delete duplicate files. Here you can find duplicate file finder software for mac - https://www.cleverfiles.com/howto/best-duplicate-file-finder-mac.html. I used Duplicate File Finder, it is free. This app also works with removable media devices like USB drives and external hard drives, that's also useful.
