You want to create an app or a website but you’re not sure where to start? Don’t worry. It happens all the time.
Building a site or an app is a lot like building a house. It is divided into parts and phases, all of which are important. Every step is needed to create a successful end product.
Most clients focus on the design aspect; think of this as the interior designer. But before the decor can be installed, the foundation must be built - the plans need to be designed and tested.
We recommend understanding and dividing projects into three phases:
1) Wireframes and specifications
2) Production of design
Not having proper site specifications and wireframes is like being that person who doesn’t build a solid foundation for their dream home. It’s not smart and doesn’t work.
Difficulties in communication cramp productivity and the development processes. Disconnect between developer and client occurs when a client can’t describe the desired project in details. As a rule of thumb, developers shouldn’t do anything that isn’t written in a specification. Plus, it is hard to guess what you envision for your site or app without proper descriptions.
We want you to be involved in every step of the way to ensure satisfaction and build relationships of trust. Here are a few things you can do:
- Communicate detailed technical specifications. What do you really want? How does someone create a specification? One place to start is creating a client story. What is your story? What features do you need to be a successful business? If a simple web store with few customizations is the goal, that’s more simple. Provide necessary information including content, contacts, accounts for payment methods, email, etc. The more specific, the more successful. Even the simplest of website specifications can take about a month to create, so take your time and determine the details.
- Create wireframes. A stable foundation is vital to create a stable structure. Wireframes help developers build stable digital foundations. If some specific functions are desired, wireframes are highly recommended. Giving your developer a rough layout design is tremendously helpful to create your web store how you want it. For instance, if you want to have a small Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system developed, understand what fields and buttons it will have. If this decision is made by developers, it may not be to your expectation. Creating wireframes beforehand saves time and money.
- Give regular feedback. Test functionality and let us know how it works for you. Don’t wait to look at the website right before launch. Is it everything you dreamed of? We hope so. If not, communicate changes and your developers will get on it right away. There is always something nobody has thought about before - don’t be afraid to tell us what you think. We want you to have a quality product, to be happy and ready for go-time.
It has been said that success is the sum of details. So, there you go: the formula for a successful project. By understanding what you want in details, you help our developers create the best products for your business. So take a minute, brainstorm the little details and send them our way!
