Why Eco-Friendly Packaging is Important to Consumers

Saving the planet is everyone’s responsibility. Climate change is a reality, and disposable packaging is becoming ever more present in our society. Everything comes in packaging: food, clothes, toys, and furniture. What we need to do is make sure our packaging is eco-friendly.

What is Eco-friendly Packaging?

Eco-friendly packaging is made from recycled or reused materials, which decompose in an environmentally friendly way. This type of packaging has less negative impact on the environment than other types of manufacturing. Eco-friendly packaging means lower CO₂ emissions. Likewise, eco-friendly packaging is also biodegradable, which means it decomposes using bacteria or living organisms, causing no pollution.

Reconditioning and reusing steel barrels is also eco-friendly, requiring less energy and less of a carbon footprint, and producing less waste.

Eco-friendly Packaging is Important

More consumers are seeking to help the in the fight against climate change and landfill waste. Consumers are looking to buy and promote and eco-friendly materials. Sorting your trash into different categories is one step, but buying products that are marketed as eco-friendly is generally the next step.

Packaging and presentation help to increase sales. You need to make your product look good to appeal to the buyer. We’re told not to judge a book by its cover but that’s exactly what we do; we judge things we are considering buying based on their surface. More often, people are looking for a sign that what they’re buying is environmentally friendly.

Eco-friendly Packaging, is it Easy to Source?

A good starting point is to source materials made from previously recycled, and easily recycled or reusable materials. Plant-based materials are easy to compost, which can be used to fertilize plants and gardens. Cutting down on waste is a huge step to increasing the eco-friendly aspects of a business, and packaging is the first step.

Companies have developed strategies to minimize waste production and maximize reuse of materials. Corporations can use the company’s commitment to recycling and environmental awareness as part of the advertising strategy. Labeling what aspects of your product can be recycled not only helps educate consumers but will also make it more likely that some will use your services rather than those of a non-environmentally conscious competitor.

Therefore, sourcing eco-friendly packaging is becoming easier than ever before, and is a huge selling point for potential consumers.

Why Should I Use Eco-friendly Packaging for my Products?

Eco-friendly packaging is a good idea for two reasons: recycling and profit. Products packaged in eco-friendly materials are more likely to be bought by consumers who want to cut down on waste and reduce damage on the environment. Trash collection is expensive, and when materials cannot be recycled or reused, these things often end up in a landfill. This cuts down on the amount of valuable land, and increases dangerous gas emissions.

When you decide to use packaging that is eco-friendly you are letti.... You are giving them the idea you are not only focused on growing your business, but also in keeping the world a safe, fertile place. This makes you responsible and reliable for those consumers concerned about the way in which their consumption of goods can impact the world in which we all live.

What Should I look for in Eco-friendly Packaging?

Eco-friendly packaging should be made of 100% recyclable materials so when the packaging is removed and discarded, all aspects can be recycled. Materials that can be recycled include: paper, aluminum, plant-based plastics and glass. However, glass is often not a suitable packaging material for fragile objects because it can break during shipping.

Cardboard and plant-based plastics are the best options to ensure your packaging safely covers your products, while also being safe for the environment. Certain products have unique features that help the materials break down when they are disposed of. This could be a chemical that encourages decomposition, or products that are biodegradable.

Products which have been reconditioned are eco-friendly because they are being used more than once. This reuse is effective at reducing waste. However, reused steel and plastic drums and barrels are unsuitable for transporting food or drinking water, so make sure you check before use.

Is Eco-friendly Packaging Durable for Shipping Large, Heavy or Hazardous Substances?

Just because the packaging is eco-friendly doesn’t mean it is less durable or useful for transporting dangerous or hefty objects. In fact, some eco-friendly products such as EcoPolyBlend spill control accumulation centers are almost entirely impervious to chemicals, including acids and corrosives. This means they will not get damaged by hazardous materials and can hold up to 8 steel or plastic drums depending on the model you choose. These trays will not rust or corrode, so you don’t have to worry about liquids corroding through the spill tray and damaging your truck or warehouse floor.

If you need to store, pump or collect liquids indoors, why don’t you opt for an eco-friendly drum collection center. These are made from recycled polyethylene and are also resistant to chemicals.

Is Eco-friendly Packaging Really that Important to Consumers?

Consumers don’t want to buy goods that are not sustainable. The products most often purchased have environmentally friendly or minimal packaging. Reducing packaging is an easy way to improve the eco-friendliness of your goods, although unless the packaging itself is eco-friendly this won’t make a huge difference.

Reducing packaging is also not always a viable option. Oftentimes, products require void-fillers to stop an oddly shaped product from moving around during shipping. Packing peanuts were the most common void-fillers of the past. However, this creates more waste, and much of it which can’t be reused or is environmentally friendly.

Air-pillows are a good alternative. These are small, air-filled plastic pockets are used to fill empty space in your shipping container. By filling the plastic pocket with air, piercing the film removes the space saver, while eliminating a lot of waste previously created by packing peanuts. The leftover product is a small, flat piece of plastic which is often made from plant-based materials.

If your products need extra padding, and you think packing peanuts are the only option, go for eco-friendly ones. Certain types of eco-friendly packing peanuts perform better than Styrofoam ones. These types of packing peanuts are biodegradable, made from non-food plant resources and have anti-static properties.

Should I Make a Bigger Effort to Use Eco-friendly Packaging for my Products?

By implementing the use of eco-friendly packaging on a small number of your products, and highlighting this fact, you could see an increase in your sales. More consumers are aware of the impact of their consumption of goods on the environment. There is a worldwide movement to raise awareness of climate change and environmental concerns. Consumers are inundated with information about the ecological and environmental effect of everything they consume, use and dispose of.

Increasing your use of eco-friendly packaging has little downside. You are giving your consumers the assurance you are environmentally friendly. Likewise, you are assuring yourself that waste your business has created is eco-friendly. Recyclable materials are eco-friendly and the way forward for consumer goods.
