The skin is the human body’s largest organ, so it should be given the utmost care. Unfortunately, many people aren’t careful about how they take care of their skin or the skincare products they use. Most people use products that contain harmful, toxic ingredients – ingredients that can cause serious health issues, skin irritation, allergic reactions and more. However, there’s an alternative – a natural skincare routine that includes organic personal care products. Below are three reasons why natural skin care is the best way to take care of your skin.

Natural and Organic Products are Simple

Most organic skincare products are made simply and have a short list of ingredients. Keep in mind that a long list of ingredients means that a product only contains a small amount of each of those ingredients. A short list of natural, healthful ingredients in organic products means that your reaping all of the benefits they have to offer. So, your skin will absorb the minerals, vitamins and other nutrients these products provide. Besides that, natural skincare products are GMO-free, don’t contain harsh chemicals, aren’t tested on animals and are non-allergenic.

Natural Skin Care Feeds the Skin

A healthy skin care routine should include natural products that ‘feed’ the skin. Moisturizing oils from avocados, nourishing compounds from oatmeal or the reparative affects from Vitamin A are all examples of ingredients that are like food for you skin. Other examples include, extra virgin coconut oil, cocoa butter, olive oil, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, zinc, copper and so much more. These plants, minerals and nutrients help ‘feed’ the skin, which helps prove that you should only use 100% natural and organic skincare products. For example, a 100% natural face cleanser that contains oatmeal, Vitamin E and coconut oil has ingredients that ‘feed’ the skin vital nutrients instead of starving the skin with harsh chemicals. Note: Avoid natural products with shelf lives of more than three months, as many of them contain oils and other ingredients that are the most nourishing and effective when they’re fresh.

Natural Skin Care Doesn’t Use of Harsh, Toxic Chemicals

People use several skin, hair and body care products, but many of them contain harsh chemical ingredients. Examples of the chemicals found in non-natural personal care products, include parabens, fragrance/parfum, Phthalates and lead. These chemicals and more are absorbed into the skin and body, and can remain for months or years. Absorption can lead to health problems, such as:

  • Neurotoxicity (brain damage)
  • Damage to the endocrine system or disruption of the function of hormones
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Cancer
  • Skin irritation and allergic reactions

Natural skincare products and routines don’t contain any of these chemicals, so you won’t have to worry about their effects. Plus, natural products can be used to reverse the effects from chemical ingredients. Not to mention, they’re better for the environment. When these chemical-laden products are washed from the skin or hair, they can end up in waterways or even the soil, which can negatively affect aquatic life and microorganisms. On the other hand, 100% natural products are free of chemicals, eco-friendly, designed to be safe for all skin types and individuals with allergies, derived from organic plants and only use minimal processing (i.e. products labelled “extra virgin,” “cold-pressed,” or “steam-distilled”).
