Even if you have a solely online business it's important to attend live events, both online and offline. There are a lot of reasons to attend and participate in these events if you really want to explode your reputation and your business.
Form More Lasting Relationships
Attending live events gives you a better opportunity to build the relationships you've already formed into long lasting relationships that will stand the test of time and technology changes. When people see your face and hear your voice it will help them bond with you on a more intimate level than by simply reading a blog post such as this.
Get Known as An Expert in Your Niche
Nothing can turn you into an expert better than attending and eventually taking a larger role in live events. You can volunteer in a variety of ways to help any event have a successful outcome. You can help make name tags for live events, or you can become a small group facilitator and even a main speaker. Both online and offline events offer a lot of ways to participate. If you're not sure what is needed simply ask the event host.
Prove Your Expertise in a Live Environment
It's a lot harder answering questions in a live event than it is to go on Facebook Groups and answer questions there. You can't really look up answers when you need to give an answer right then. You have to really know what you're talking about. You have to have stories and proof that you can call on at the spur of the moment when you answer questions of your audience. This will solidify your expert status like nothing else can.
Get Out of a Business Rut
Sometimes, when you work from home in your own business, you can get bored and your income will stagnate. Worse, you can become an isolationist. It's easy to end up not wanting to be around people because you don't really have to in order to earn money online. But, by pushing past your comfort zone you'll get out of your business rut, breathe new life into your business, and probably start earning more income.
You're Going to Learn So Much
Live events enable you to learn so many things that you probably wouldn't learn about without going to the event. After all, if you don't know what to look up, you may never discover that presenter's work. You may discover apps you never even thought of, and mentors who are the perfect people to help you improve your business.
If you have never attended any live events, either online or off, make it a commitment to choose at least two or three to attend each year. Be picky about which events you attend. Know why you are going to attend. If it's to expand your expertise you want to attend events that your audience would attend. If you want to learn more attend events within your niche with colleagues. It's up to you what you do.
Let me know what events you're going to attend within the next year. I want to hear all about them. I'll start by telling you that I'm speaking at and attending The VA Assistant Online Conference VA Virtuosos in November 2016. I hope to see you there.
